2Beatgrid

Grids that hold, even when the tempo changes.

Solco's beatgrid AI model hears beats and bars in the audio itself. It locks onto a four-to-the-floor kick, finds the bars in a piano piece, and follows a live drummer through every tempo change, bar by bar. It gets almost every grid right: of the 9,434 tracks in my own library, 848 change tempo, and Solco asked me to check just 16 grids.

Real output, not a mock-up. Solco's analysis of four tracks from a DJ's library, drawn exactly as it comes out: every beat and bar line, and the tempo at each beat underneath.

Follows the drummer: Disco, funk and old rock get a grid that moves with the band.
Exact when it is steady: Club tracks get one tempo for the whole track, like 137.72.
Bars, not just beats: Downbeats are found too, so cues and loops land on the one.
Asks when unsure: The few uncertain grids wait in one list, with a one-click fix.

Solco hears what a track is, even when its tag is wrong or empty. Keep the style in its own field, or write it into the genre tag.

Heard, not read. Disco, Deep House, Ambient, Techno and hundreds of styles in between.
Found as what it is. A track that sounds like disco turns up as disco.
Your call. Nothing is written to a file until you say so.

4Character

Energy, drive, mood. Searchable.

AI models trained on how listeners rate music read each track's energy, drive, mood, groove, vocals and peak, on the same 0 to 100 scale for every track. With key, BPM and genre next to them, you can slice the whole collection any way a set needs, and find the tracks you forgot you had. It all runs on your computer, on the GPU when there is one.

Key your way: Camelot like 8A, or classical like E minor.
Loudness you can mix by: Every track measured in LUFS, so level jumps show before you mix.
Improves over time: When an AI model gets better, only its readings are redone. Nothing else is touched.

5Smart playlists

Playlists that sort themselves.

A smart playlist is rules you type, each one turning into a chip: bpm:120..124, key:8A, energy:>=60. Every new track that fits files itself in. Or describe the night to the assistant, and it builds the playlists for you.

6Tags and cover

Tags and covers, fixed by ear.

Solco recognises each track by its audio fingerprint, finds it in MusicBrainz and Discogs, and proposes the right title, album, year and cover. Confident matches go in with one click. The rest wait for you, field by field.

See it before it is written: Every change sits next to what your file says now. Untick any field to keep it.
Verified copy: Files are written through a checked copy, never edited in place.
Covers: The release artwork comes with the match.

7Duplicates

One copy of every record.

Solco recognises the same recording by its sound, even under another name in another folder. It keeps the copy in your library, shows exactly what goes, and asks first.

8On the USB

Plays on CDJs.
No rekordbox.

Solco writes the USB your CDJs and XDJs read directly.

Tick your playlists, plug in a drive, and it writes the rekordbox USB format that Pioneer players read. No laptop in the booth.

I built Solco so the music I download is ready right away, and I can focus on what I love most: finding new music and playing it for people.

Questions

What DJs ask first.

Do I need rekordbox?

No. Solco writes the USB drive itself, in the rekordbox format Pioneer players read. If you still use rekordbox, Solco can import its library, and rekordbox keeps working as before.

Can I still organise my library my own way?

Yes. Your folders, playlists, cues, grids and tags stay exactly as you set them. Solco adds its readings next to yours and only writes to a file when you say so. Do as much by hand as you like, or none of it.

Which players read the drive?

I have played Solco USBs on the XDJ-RX3, CDJ-2000NXS2, CDJ-2000 and XDJ-1000. Any player that reads the classic rekordbox USB format should work, including the CDJ-3000 and XDJ-XZ. Players that read only the newer OneLibrary format, like the CDJ-3000X and XDJ-AZ, are not supported yet. Tell me what you play on when you sign up.

What comes over from my rekordbox library?

Playlists, folders, hot cues, memory cues, loops, ratings and colours. Beatgrids stay behind, because Solco grids every track itself. Your rekordbox library is only read, never changed.

Is my music uploaded?

No. Every analysis runs on your computer. The optional playlist assistant sends only your request and a count of your genres and styles to an AI provider you choose. No titles, file names or audio, and you can point it at a model on your own machine instead.

What does it cost?

The alpha is free. Each alpha build runs for 30 days, and a new one follows. The price of the full release is not set yet; people on the waitlist hear it first.

Which computers does it run on?

macOS on Apple Silicon, Windows and Linux. Intel Macs are not supported.

What does private alpha mean?

Solco is early. I let DJs in small groups, read every report, and ship updates often. Keep a backup of your music, as you always should.

The name

tracciare il solco

Solco /ˈsol.ko/ is Italian for the groove of a record, and for the furrow ploughed before sowing.

Tracciare il solco means to prepare the way. So the music can grow, and you can play.
